[su_box title="The Lowdown" style="default"] Auto-Owners is only available to customers in 26 states The company provides some of the lowest car insurance rates in the business Auto-Owners has consistently high marks in customer service but underperforms in processing claims [/su_box] Auto-Owners Insurance is different from most traditional car insurance companies. Instead of allowing customers to purchase and modify their policies through a centralized office, they reach out to independent agents that work on the company’s behalf. Due to this unique arrangement, Auto-Owners has grown immensely to write car insurance policies in 26 states, including Michigan, California, and Florida. This includes coverage options for auto, home, and life insurance. Many positives exist if you’re considering Auto-Owners as your next car insurance company, including endorsements and competitive auto insurance rates. However, before making the final call, you should consider the drawbacks of receiving a policy from a lesser-known car insurance company. This review will provide all the information you need to make an informed buying decision.

Auto-Owners is a reliable insurance provider with fewer customer complaints than the industry median. It’s ideal for drivers who want to work with an agent and manage their policy in person, not online.

In addition, Auto-Owners offers multiple types of coverage and various car insurance options. All in all, it’s a good choice for those seeking a quality insurance service.

What You Should Know About auto-owners insurance group

Local car insurance companies can provide an array of benefits you may not find with a larger, national insurer. The biggest advantage is the personalized and knowledgeable service that comes with working with a local agent.

Your local car insurance provider will get to know you and your individual needs so that they can tailor coverage for you. You’ll also have someone nearby who understands the laws and regulations in your state and any unique circumstances related to your situation.

Another benefit of choosing a local company is its commitment to giving back to the community where its customers live and work. Many smaller-sized insurers are involved in various charities or volunteer efforts within their hometowns, which is something that’s usually lacking from larger, corporate-owned companies.

Finally, local car insurance providers can often offer more competitive rates than their national counterparts. Because they don’t have to pay for large marketing campaigns or cover as many states, many smaller insurers are able to pass on the savings to customers.

Additionally, because they work closely with you around your particular situation, they may be able to provide tailored discounts that you wouldn’t get elsewhere.

Overall, choosing a local car insurance company offers several advantages over a larger one. From personalized service and community involvement to cheaper premiums and tailor-made discounts, there’s a lot of value in working with an agent who knows your area inside and out.

Auto-Owners Insurance Ratings

Auto-Owners car insurance has a strong reputation for customer satisfaction and is considered one of the top choices for drivers looking to purchase auto insurance coverage.

Auto-Owners has earned an impressive A++ rating for its financial strength from A.M. Best for 47 consecutive years, placing it among the Fortune 500 companies. This only confirms their financial security and stability in the market.

Customers have rated it highly for customer service and coverage options, with competitive premiums to match.

J.D Power’s survey indicates below-average ratings for the claims process and customer satisfaction. J.D. Power gave Auto-Owners car insurance 4.2 out of 5 stars.

The National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) awarded a score of 0.86, while the Better Business Bureau (BBB) also gave Auto-Owners an A+ rating.

Finally, A.M. Best’s top rating of A++ is a testament to their success in delivering reliable and quality service. Here is a complete overview of their ratings:

  • J.D. Power: 4.2/5
  • NAIC: 0.86
  • BBB: A+
  • A.M. Best: A++

The ratings from A.M. Best, J.D. Power, NAIC, and the BBB give customers an understanding of how reliable Auto-Owners Insurance is in terms of coverage options and customer service.

The better the rating a company receives from these industry sources, the more dependable it can be considered for covering your car insurance needs.

The high ratings for Auto-Owners indicate that customers have voiced their satisfaction with its policies and services over the years, making it a top choice for many drivers looking for auto insurance coverage.

Auto-Owners Car Insurance Loss Ratio

The important question here is what is a loss ratio? Why does loss ratio matter when it comes to selecting a car insurance company? The loss ratio is the percentage of money that an insurance company pays out in claims relative to the amount they take in from premiums.

A higher loss ratio indicates that a company is paying out more claims, while a lower number indicates that they are not paying as many.

Auto-Owners car insurance has an overall Loss Ratio of 60.89%. This means that for every dollar it takes in from customers in premium payments, it pays out about 64 cents worth of claims. This percentage is normal for the industry, meaning that the company is performing well.

  • Road trouble service is a great option to consider if you want to make sure you’re never stranded on the side of the road.

Auto-Owners Insurance offers a range of discounts to make car insurance more affordable. Multi-policy discounts are available if you combine auto coverage with homeowners, renters, or condo insurance policies.

Paying your premium in full may also give you a discount, as could enrolling for paperless billing and online payments.

Young drivers can benefit from three different student discounts:

  • Good grades
  • Being away at school
  • Using a driving monitoring device

Other customers may be eligible for reduced rates if they remain claims-free and have safety features installed on their vehicles.

Additionally, paying premiums on time is possible for an even bigger saving.

By taking advantage of these discounts, Auto-Owners customers can reduce the cost of their car insurance and keep more money in their pocket. Check with an Auto-Owners agent to see if you qualify for discounts that could lower the cost of your car insurance premiums.

Finally, keep in mind that any discounts received may be subject to change or even cancellation at any time without prior notice, so it’s important to familiarize yourself with these policies before committing.

Make sure you understand how each discount works and what steps you must take to maintain eligibility. This will ensure you get the most out of your savings and enjoy low premiums.

Contact your local Auto-Owners agent for full details about the applicable discounts available.

How auto-owners insurance group Ranks Among Providers

Auto-Owners car insurance is an option for drivers looking for comprehensive coverage. Compared to the rates of other major insurance providers, Auto-Owners appears to be a reasonably cost-effective choice.

Regardless of your driving history, Auto-Owners is cheaper than Allstate, but more expensive than State Farm.

Allstate has the highest rates even with no accident history. Allstate becomes significantly more expensive after one accident, making it clearly the least cost-effective option out of all three companies.

In sum, Auto-Owners is a relatively inexpensive car insurance company but likely will not offer the cheapest rates you can find.

Auto insurance rates vary depending on personal factors, including your age, gender, driving history, and location. Different companies weigh these factors differently, so customers should always compare rates among providers to ensure they are getting the most cost-effective coverage for their specific needs.

Poor service

One of the worse companies I've worked with. They hit me with a bill 6 months after canceling. A cancelled in 2020 hit me with the bill in 2021 due to a "system issue" doesn't seem legal to hit someone with a bill 8 months later. I couldn't even log into my account to pay the bill because I am not longer a member there. How to chase them down online.

Well done Auto Owners Insurance

This is the first time I have had to file a claim with my Auto Insurance Company and both the agents and the auto insurance company Auto Owners Insurance did everything possible to make this as easy as possible. The Auto Body Shop a friend recommended were also wonderful...my car was show room ready in a very short time.

Agent mistakenly did not put comp on my oldest vehicle.

Reasonable prices considering Michigan auto insurance is very expensive. But unfortunately a newer agent neglected to put Comp on my oldest vehicle which I added last summer.
